John, I’m thinking it has something to do with ending a 500 year old Roman Republic, sending it into a Civil War, and after winning becoming a dictator. Aside from that, under his command he also waged the Gallic Wars which killed a total of 1.5 million people in just seven years and enslaved another 1 million (according to Plutarch – meaning that the numbers are probably a bit inflated). Either way, he was essentially the Hitler of the first century BCE.
